Dual Enrollment with Yuba College

Dual enrollment at YES Charter Academy is thriving because every high school science class is also a Yuba College course, allowing students to earn college credit as part of their regular schedule.

Through this partnership, students are actively working toward a Yuba College Watershed Management Certificate, grounding their learning in the ecological realities of the Sierra foothills.

At the same time, they’re completing requirements for a Career Technical Education certification, giving them both academic momentum and workforce‑ready skills.

As a result, YES students graduate with college credits, industry‑aligned competencies, and a clear pathway into environmental and land‑stewardship careers.

In 9th‑grade Ecology, students dive into intense, college‑level lectures and quizzes that push them to think like real scientists while exploring endangered species through hands‑on observation. Each module asks them to look closely at the living world around them and imagine how their generation can protect forests, habitats, and natural resources.

By 10th grade, students shift into Water Resources and Conservation, where they analyze real USGS runoff data and build charts that reveal how California’s water systems are changing over time. They study the history and engineering behind aqueducts, dams, and reservoirs—and learn how “paper water” contracts move water across counties—giving them a deeper understanding of where their water comes from and how they can help steward it for the future.
