About YES
YES Charter Academy is a free public charter school for T/K through 9th grade education with a focus on applying the scientific method through hands-on learning.
Our mission is to cultivate a nurturing educational environment that pairs rigorous scientific inquiry with the highest standards of both academic and moral conduct. We SPARRK students to be: Stewards of the environment, Positive team players, Academic masters, Responsible citizens, Resourceful, Kind.
WHAT DOES THAT LOOK LIKE FOR STUDENTS?
Our Farm to School program serves students fresh, locally sourced ingredients in school meals, fresh local fruits and vegetables on our salad bar, and local grass fed beef and organic chicken in our main dishes.
How do we do this? YES has a greenhouse, a garden, and a henhouse, all tended by the YES farmer and students. We buy food produced by local farmers and ranchers; and we scratch cook school meals in our school kitchen. Our farm to school team is:
Juan Jose Domingo, YES Farmer
Sheila Rolfer, YES Procurement Specialist
Cherrity Leyson YES School Chef
Michele Rodriquez YES Cook
What else makes the student experience at YES special? Students engage in project based learning solving environmental issues. Each class presents their project at our Earth Day celebration. This year that will be April 20, 2024. Each class’s project incorporates community outreach, field trips, and visiting experts.
YES is growing! Starting in August of 2024, YES will start adding high school grades! Our high school plans include preparing students for college and career with an exciting program tailored to the needs of our community. Please see the YES HS tab for more information.
